I recently released my Accordion and Beyond Ableton Live Pack, which features sample-based accordion instruments that create a realistic accordion instrument for Ableton Live. The instruments combine the power of Ableton Live and some sound design tricks to create otherworldly sounds that are impossible with an acoustic accordion.

A Vintage Accordion Inside Ableton Live!

I got my hands on a vintage Mussi Corvette accordion from the 1960s. It’s a beautiful instrument that’s still in fantastic shape.

After a few minutes, I learned how difficult it is to play! Fortunately, I was able to sample it and turn it into playable Ableton Live Instruments!

The Accordion and Beyond Ableton Live Pack features faithful recreations of the real accordion, as well as some more experimental sounds made from the samples.

BF Accordion Instrument Rack

The BF Accordion Instrument has 20 different Macro Presets. The first 3 presets are authentic-sounding accordion instruments. The rest of them add effects and modulations to create new sounds, impossible to make with a real accordion. This Rack utilizes Chorus, Delay, and Reverb, along with Filters and various modulations to create unique and exciting new sounds.

Experiment with Aftertouch to change the rates of the Volume, Filter, and Pan Mods. Since Live supports MPC, you can vary the movement on each note you play individually!

The BF Accordion and Beyond Instrument features more experimental instruments. Everything from arpeggiated plucks to space ship sounds and vintage keys are here. Use the 20 Macro Presets or dial in the Macro Controls to get the perfect sound for your next mix.

This Rack features Polyphonic Aftertouch that modulates the Filter Frequency. As you alter the Aftertoch Pressure, you can change the Filtering on each individual note separately. This is perfect for creating evolving and exciting sounds.

BF Accordion Noises are percussion sounds made with the accordion switches, keys, and bellows.

BF Accordion Case Noises are percussion sounds made from latches, handles, and other sounds the accordion’s case makes.

I noticed that the accordion’s body and its case both make some nice percussive sounds. I sample a bunch of sounds from each and processed them a bit to make two Drum Racks. The next time you want some percussion in a track that stands out from some of the more traditional choices, these two Drum Racks are for you!
