I’d like to take a minute to say Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays to anyone reading this. I hope you have some time to spend with the people you love and remind yourself of the important things in life.
A Gift From AfroDJMac!
It’s become a tradition around here to create an Ableton Live Pack especially for Christmas. Nothing really evokes the feelings and memories of Christmas quite like the sound of jingling bells! This year I have decided to sample my sleigh bells. I did so using Rode NT5 mics, which I recently had modified by Michael Joly (he can turn entry level mics into high-end works of art). So to celebrate, I’ve created not one but four different instruments for your holiday pleasure.
Four Ableton Live Instruments Created from Sleigh Bells Samples
There are four really cool Ableton Live instrument racks for your enjoyment. The first is a drum rack with the 11 samples I recorded. The second is another drum rack with two pads. Each pad will randomly play one of six samples. This one is especially cool, because you can simply bang away on one pad without it sounding repetitive; any performance or recording will always play a different sequence of bells samples. The third and fourth are more melodic type instruments, in which the sleigh bell samples have been pitched out across the keyboard. The third works well melodically, but can easily be destroyed and turned into something unrecognizable. The fourth one makes use of the Max for Live Granulator. Granulator is super powerful and creates great otherworldly sounds.
Check out the video below for a walkthrough on each instrument. Then download the pack below. *Please note that Live 9 is required, and you will need Max for Live to use the Granulator instrument.*
The Instruments of Christmas Past…
In case you missed the last two Christmases here at AfroDJMac.com, be sure to check out the first two Christmas gifts I’ve made: The Christmas Tree Lights Synth and the Charlie Brown Christmas Instruments. I still love both of these collections and find them useful and exciting all year round!
Thanks for stopping by and Merry Christmas!
